Input of information, names or suggestions from the
reader
It is important that the website is kept up to date with what is
actually going on in the world. One of the problems with this
is that the scientific groups are working very hard and tend not
to tell anyone else what they are doing until the breakthrough
is ready and the political groups tend to keep as much as
possible under wraps because of the repercussions.
The effect of this is that the newspapers have a great time
making the best stories that they can out of the least
information and the consumers and the farmers voices are hardly
heard until the shops cannot sell the beef and the farmers start
to go bankrupt.
Initially the tendency was that the European Governments (and
WHO) received their information about BSE from the UK Ministry
of Agriculture. It must be clear to anyone watching now that
the MAFF data was not all of the story.
It is important that groups interested in BSE keep up to
date and that they supply and receive information regularly!
For this reason 2 items will soon be starting:
- The Internet Journal of Spongiform Encephalopathy
- The Internet Conference of Bovine Spongiform
Encephalopathy
The Journal will be requiring publications and the editors are
currently calling for submissions for the first edition to be
published in the Summer of 1996 on the internet. For
information on how to submit, see the journal page in this web
The Conference should be starting in June or July 1996 with 10
discussion speeches. Five of these are already ready and we are
calling for further submissions. For information on how to
submit, see the conference page in this web.
